    Answers to common file-conversion questions

    File extensions describe a container, not the complexity inside it. Fonts, scans, transparency, page dimensions, and compression all influence the result.

    Why can a converted Word document look different from its PDF?

    A PDF stores a fixed page appearance, while Word stores editable paragraphs, runs, lists, tables, and floating objects. Reconstructing those editable elements requires interpretation. Text-based PDFs usually produce better editable results than scans, flattened graphics, or documents with unusual positioning.

    What is the difference between a text PDF and a scanned PDF?

    In a text PDF, letters are stored as characters and can usually be selected or searched. A scanned PDF may contain only page images. Without optical character recognition, an image-only page can be preserved visually but cannot automatically become fully editable text.

    Should I choose JPG or PNG?

    Choose JPG for photographs and other continuous-tone images where a smaller file is useful. Choose PNG for logos, diagrams, interface screenshots, sharp text, or transparency. Converting a transparent PNG to JPG replaces transparent pixels with white because JPG has no transparency channel.

    Will split or merged PDFs keep selectable text?

    Converttwo rebuilds pages from rendered page images for these tools. The visible layout is retained, but the new PDF does not keep searchable text, forms, annotations, bookmarks, links, accessibility tags, or digital signatures from the source. Keep the original whenever those features matter.

    Why do fonts or page breaks sometimes change?

    The same font must be available to the conversion engine to reproduce its exact metrics. A substitute can be slightly wider or narrower, moving words and page breaks. Complex headers, footnotes, tracked changes, equations, and floating objects can also be interpreted differently across document applications.

    What should I check before using a converted file?

    Review page count, headings, tables, bullets, image placement, links, and the first and last lines of each page. For business, legal, academic, or print-ready files, compare the result side by side with the source before distributing it.
